    January 2019 Newsletter

Hello Survivors! We’ve had a chance to pause and take a breath over the holiday break. We’re pretty happy about how the Invitational Open Alpha has gone so far. We learned a lot about server performance - on the final weekend, for example, we discovered that if you add in a bunch of Christmas decorations to the world without testing extensively, it can cause frame rates to drop unexpectedly... Whoops! However, the game is pretty stable right now, and we’re making good progress towards Early Access release. We really appreciated all the community’s support inviting friends and streamers to come try the game. We had distributed over 4,000 codes for the Alpha by 23 December, and on the final weekend we had over 730 unique players log in. There were over 4,200 PvP casualties and you also managed to wipe out over 54,000 Humanoids! And it’s not stopped there – since the last Alpha weekend, we so far have over 1,400 new registrations to join the Alpha. Along with our existing loyal XERA: Survival family who have pre-ordered the game, the community is growing rapidly! So welcome to all our new players – from 89 different countries. To the new members from our top ten locations: Bem-vindos – Welcome – 欢迎 – Bienvenue – Herzlich willkommen – ยินดีต้อนรับ – chào mừng XERA: Survival has come a long way since the very first testing in June 2018 – sometimes we stumble across footage from back then, and we’re really happy with the steady improvement over the last 6 months. But there is still a long way to go. As well as regular updates through the Alpha, Joshua and the team are continuing to work through the roadmap adding features and content as they become ready. Much as we wanted to restart the Alpha weekends straight away, we needed a little time to focus on getting a bit more content ready for the game – as the weekends themselves tend to put us more in ‘maintenance mode’ than ‘development mode’. At present, we’re planning to run another weekend on 25 – 27 January and then again after two weeks (8 – 10 Feb). These dates are subject to change! If all continues to go well, then we are on course for moving into Early Access in the first half of this year, but again, it’s ready when it’s ready. What are the challenges we face? Making sure we have a good number of players coming back to participate in the weekend sessions, first and foremost. Not only do we want to attract new players, but we also want to make sure you all keep coming back for more. With the weekends running every two weeks, this should give Joshua and the artists time to add more between sessions. We expect there to be a new patch before each Alpha weekend moving forward. And please continue inviting your friends to the Open Alphas - just head into the Invitations channel on the Discord Server and type: !invite We’ve opened applications for our Creator Program, so if you are a streamer or if you know one who might like the game - have them apply here or invite them to sign-up for the alpha. Finally, a gigantic thanks to all our community helpers who step in at a moment’s notice to assist other players - you are all magnificent! For the record, Iced Yoshi (IcedYoshi#7281 on Discord) is now promoted to be overall Community Manager. He has always been the cornerstone of our community moderation and we look forward to working with him through 2019. Cheers!Regards,Spotted Kiwi Interactive
  2. Hi Survivors – and thank you! What a weekend! We had a great influx of new players – thanks for sending out all those invitations – despite Discord going into meltdown for the best part of five hours just as we sent out the invitations to redeem tokens for Steam Keys using our Discord bot… We were sat here in New Zealand on Saturday morning our time, tearing our hair out over that one! Thank you everyone for your patience. We gained a ton of useful analytics, uncovered a variety of bugs (some of which were biggies, some of which were hilarious, some of which were both). We pushed out updates over the weekend and will continue to do so throughout the Alpha period. If you played for the first time on the weekend, remember you will start with an empty inventory if you play on during the week. Please note the server populations will be smaller – for more PvP action, wait until the weekend! We will again back up all your profiles and start the next weekend Alpha session with an empty inventory for all players before restoring after the weekend. We have already received over 500 more sign-ups since we sent out last week’s invitations, which means it’s looking good for the next session! You can easily cut and paste direct message invitations to friends using the command !invite in the invitations channel on our Discord server. We have a limited number of keys, so PLEASE only send to friends you think will enjoy the game and play. Many of the keys we sent out last week remain unused, and though they cost us nothing, we may not be able to get more from Valve, restricting our testing and leading to a smaller server population which isn’t great for either us or you. We had some awesome support from streamers over the weekend, so please let us know if there are any other streamers or ’tubers you think will enjoy playing, and we can get in touch. Feel free to let them know yourselves and share those invitations. Anyhow, next weekend we start at the same time as last weekend: click here to see the start time in your locale, or check out the times on the world map. Once again, thanks to everyone who has played, please keep those invitations going, and come back next weekend! We appreciate all the support, bug reports, streams, and most of all this being a kick ass, friendly community. Cheers The Spotted Kiwi Team
  3. Hi Survivors, Good news! Fresh meat! Starting on December 7th, we’re going to launch a series of XERA: Survival weekend sessions across all regions to ramp up our server stress testing, and to get a wider variety of PC rigs putting our code through its paces. To find out the time these sessions start, click the map below, or here to see the start time in your current locale. Additionally, we will be backing up existing players’ data before each weekend starts, then resetting the database so every player starts the Invitational Open Alpha weekend session with no advantage. At the end of the play session, we’ll be restoring your data, so you can continue playing as before until the following week when the process will be repeated. Where will the fresh meat come from? Well this is where you come in… If you’d like to get some mates playing the game with you, then please invite them! Please note, if you are already a Backer and have access to the Alpha, you will automatically have access to the Invitational Open Alpha. To make it easy for you, there’s a Bot that will generate the invitation for you - Go the to the XERA: Survival Discord server, inside the #invitations channel and type !invite. The Bot will then DM you the message for you to simply cut and paste into a direct message via your favored method (Discord, Twitter, FB, email, however you like!) The link in the message includes your Discord username to give you credit for inviting people - we’ll be rewarding the most active recruiters! Feel free to customise the message of course with your own additions. We have a limited number of Invitational Open Alpha keys available, so please invite only your friends you feel will enjoy trying the game out. You’ll probably have a few questions about the Invitational Open Alpha, so we’ve tried to anticipate a few of these below in our FAQ. But if your question is unanswered here, feel free to ping it back to the team either in the Forums or Discord channel, or directly to [email protected] or hit me up on Discord: Infamy#8481. Invitational Open Alpha FAQ Do my friends have to pay to participate in the Invitational Open Alpha? No, participation in the Invitational Open Alpha is free provided they are allocated a key. In the event we run out of keys and cannot obtain more, then the only way to participate will be via pre-order, but we (currently) have plenty of keys for the Invitational Open Alpha. I'm already a backer, do I need to sign-up for the Invitational Open Alpha? No – you will automatically have access to the Alpha – please do not sign-up again for the Invitational Open Alpha. I am a member of the XERA: Survival community but I’ve not yet pre-ordered or played the game – can I participate in the Invitational Open Alpha? You sure can. Just head to the Invitational Open Alpha registration page and signup. Hang on – I’m a Backer and now people are getting to play for free?! The keys being used for the Invitational Open Alpha are for that purpose only and will not work once the game enters Early Access. We may make a decision to allow these keys to be used in an Open Beta prior to Early Access release, but this is not yet decided. Are there any limits on the number of people I can invite? In practice, no, but please don’t invite large numbers or spam groups with invitations. We will monitor invitations and reserve the right not to allocate keys if we feel the invitations have been abused. Please only invite your friends who you think will enjoy the game and have the time to play it on the Invitational Open Alpha weekends. How are you going to allocate the keys if there are only a limited number? Just before the Invitational Open Alpha weekends, we will allocate keys and email them out. In the event we run out, we’ll order by the date of sign-up. If we get additional keys further down the line, we will also try to backfill if people missed out. Will these keys work for future pre-release testing? Very possibly – this decision has not yet been made. Can I stream / take video / screenshots / make GIFs? Yes! Please send us the links so we can give back to you folks for the support you’re showing us! If you are a regular content creator, be sure to check out our creator program. Will these Invitational Open Alpha keys work once the game goes into Early Access? They will not, no – that would not be fair on the Backers who have pre-ordered the game. We hope if you folks like it, you’ll want to join the pre-order program too. There will be other benefits for Alpha participants to be revealed further down the line, but these will not be discounts on the pre-order price. Cheers! Tim

Excited to be part of the team and help get everything off the ground... XERA: Survival is the most interesting project I've had the opportunity to be involved with for a long time, and I hope I can play my part in making it a success. And have my @ss handed to me on a plate when I'm in game. Again.
