Currency System Ideas - Voice your opinions!

First off, thank you to everyone who participated in our most recent poll!  We will be doing more of these in the future to help with the development road map and with gathering community feedback on upcoming ideas.

For the next few days, lets get a discussion going on what you would like to see from the currency system.

How would you like to earn currency?

What items would you like to see from traders?

What is your vision for how traders would work?

Where would traders be located?  What are your thoughts on limited time traders that have a shifting inventory?

Please feel free to add any other thoughts you have.  We have a general vision of how things will look, but it's very important that we hear from the community about this as well.  We are excited to hear your feedback and look forward to working with all of you to help build something everyone will enjoy.

With the development of the currency system, it will lead later down the road to being able to be used with the Survivor Exchange (p2p buying and selling).  That is still a ways out, but is something that will come in time and will tie in with being able to use currency for buying and selling.

How would you like to earn currency?

Players should be able to earn currency in multiple different ways, opening crates from completing server events should reward with currency, you should have a chance to get a small bit of currency from each robot killed and you should earn a small amount of currency for player kills. (Make events the most rewarding)

 

What items would you like to see from traders?

Basic low tier weapons for noobies. Ammunition types, medical items and some crafting items (not drones).

What is your vision for how traders would work?

Traders should help new players get a headstart into the game and also let veteran players sell an abundance of what they dont need in return for what they do need, such as selling 9mm ammo in order to purchase 7.62. Obviously sell to buy rate needs to be precise as it wouldnt be correct to sell 1 9mm bullet for 1 7.62 bullet.

 

Where would traders be located?  What are your thoughts on limited time traders that have a shifting inventory?

 There should be a static trader at each outpost that sells low tier weapons, ammo, meds, then somewhere in the centre redsville, preferably open area like a carpark or somewhere that can't be held too easily, you could have limited time vendors that cycle through a series of higher tier items such as higher tier meds/ammo

Should definitely lose currency if you die  as a ( rogue ) and transfer it to the killer maybe

Events, like how @Oreo said. Amount from opening crates, doing compounds, ect. Getting robot kill could drop some but make it a small amount to avoid people abusing it to a lot of stuff by just camping airport. You should get some for player kills, and depending on your're killstreak get a bonus amount if say 1 kill you get 10 and on a 5 killstreak you get 50, and then if you kill someone that has a killstreak you should half the amount he was on, so if a player is on 5 killstreak and 50 coins if I was to kill him I'd get 25 coins. Kinda like the bounty system on NewZ. Also you could add it as a lootable item, that would make looting more rewarding kinda like h0w on Stattered Skies you could find legendary guns parts which if you found 10 you could make a legendary gun box for a random gun.

What items would you like to see from traders?

Meds 100%, maybe not like military meds, or put those on a timer.  low tier weapons, ammo, and crafting materials, and if you take out /outfit you could add those too.  Or make some new ones and add those.

What is your vision for how traders would work?

Mainly, to help out new players. The reason most people leave is because they get on for an hour, loot around and find some guns only to lose their GI and not feel like looting again too actually learn how to play the game correctly.

Each safezone, I'm also a fan of one somewhere around the map. This could be a good time to actually impliment and nonSZ GI, have it be a small outpost that looks all war torn, and worn down. And have the trader be behind some bars or bulletproof class making it look like a sorta Stalker trader vibe. 

 

I also +1 what @Kuush said, It'd give people insensitive to maybe kinda not SZ pvp

^^^ But also add player kills to this list, and in vice versa you take a very small % of the player's currency on the kill.

 

What items would you like to see from traders?

This is where things get dicey. Now your PvPer's are going to say Meds and Ammo. Now in counter to that the Farmer's will say you just ruined trading for us, and they will say traders should sell Keys, Gasoline, and Other essentials to boosting one's GI. Personally, I would like to see Keys being sold, Ammo conversion but make it very very steep. Like recycling ammo for ammo, but at a very hard cost. To promote trading but also generate a recycling system. Meds should be a very touchy area in terms of buying from a vendor, maybe a high tier contested vendor with a limited amount able to purchase daily.

A system to recycle items to purchase items needed but at a High price.

Easy question. Never should a Vendor be located in Safe zone. It should be a rush of adrenaline and a risk every time you go to a vendor to buy shit n transport back to your GI. Some will say but CAMPERS! It will generate more PvP n promote the game as a heavy PvP survival. If there is going to be a Vendor in a Safe Zone it should be the most generic ass simple vendor for recycling things too. Now as far as the High Tier Vendor goes with a shifting inventory. Put your random campsites scattered all through the map to work. Have him move around hourly to random military blockaids, to the camp sites. maybe jump him/her to Reds. N 100% should have a 40% static inventory 60% shifting inventory for example 556/223/Bandages/medkits/keys            ((( NO FAKS)))))  those need to be earned via events, and then a shifting inventory of random things Guns/Armor/Crafting etc.

N for God sakes make the shifting things a limited purchasable cooldown per person via daily or weekly etc. Be delicate though you dont want to mass murder the farming community while doing this.

First, I would like currency to be its own "digital system" not an actual weighted object in the game. Not something I have to make space for.

I think money should be earned from killing bots, opening supply drops, killing players, selling items to traders. Also I think currency should not be lost on death. You already lose gear and xp and levels. Currency should be the one safe thing we have along with G.I

 

What items would you like to see from traders?

All Items. 

What is your vision for how traders would work?

Traders only selling what players sell them. Every item has a set price, players sell to the traders, traders add it to their "stock" other players buy from that stock. If no one sells to the trader, then no one can buy from them. Farmers get their money for selling and resupplying traders and PVP's get to buy items instantly depending on the trader market.

Where would traders be located?  What are your thoughts on limited time traders that have a shifting inventory?

Have a regular trader that everyone buys and sells to in each safe area. I think limited traders are a good idea, with shifting inventory. It would be cool if you could only buy certain items from them, they wouldn't accept anything you're selling and they were i different locations at different times.

I don't have much time but I'll quickly reply on how I would like to gain currency:

Quest-like NPCs: bring me 10 Glock and you'll get X item - Maybe a tier kind of thing depending on character level, the more level, the more difficult the quest but a good reward as well.

Kill X amount of players in the next X minutes/hours and get X amount of currency
Kill X amount of robots in the next X minutes/hours and get X amount of currency
Complete X amount of events and get X amount of currency

and so on..

Low tier items sold from vendors to help manage prices and take money of out the game. Then allow players to list items for sale on an auction house. Very low amounts of money should drop from robots and airdrops.

 From event, player kill, sometime from robots and by vending your useless items (instead of mess up the ground).

Meds (only bandage / gaze), ammo, and food.

 

What is your vision for how traders would work?

Vending your useless stuff, so even if ur GI is full, u have one more reason to farm/pvp ? Because to be honest I feel realy bad to waste so many stuff like i do actually xD

 

Where would traders be located?  What are your thoughts on limited time traders that have a shifting inventory?

In safezone obviously, and why not make an event with a vendor who sell rare stuff, like ak/heavy and other (only one copy from rare items, so first come first served)

How to earn currency

There are 2 different ways that you should earn currency. 1) Selling items to the trader in return for currency, which should be the primary and most rewarding way, and 2) A smaller amount that rewards you for completing events that could also be weighted based on amount of players on a server, so that somebody on a 1 pop can’t farm the same amount of currency as the guy risking his life at an event on a 20 pop, etc. 

 

Purpose

The goal of in game currency should be to allow players to redeem unneeded items for credit towards something they want. For example, if somebody has saved up 400 or however many first aids to redeem for an L96, etc it opens that door for them rather than waiting for people who hold them in their GI to trade or use it.

 

Control

My suggestion is to be less lenient with the currency system, because if you have everybody earning crap tons of currency for completing one compound, the system will quickly be ruined due to inflation, so make sure you’re pessimistic with how currency is handed out and prices of different items.

by doing quests, events, killing robots (not 100% drop rate), selling items, dailweekly challenge, maybe kill people.

Currency can potentialy be another way to spread people all across the map and create "unfortunate" pvp, new pvp situations and locations, better coverage of the entire map and locations...

What items would you like to see from traders?

some common items : no high tier weapon/med/armor should be sold here imo.Also some specific items you can only have by buying to a trader. . Some skins/clothes items like what about some gloves or bandana (every ideas welcome here) that you could only have by grinding  the game (pve or pvp wise)

simple interact with them in safe zone. i don't think i will bring 30 faks outside of safezone to potentialy find a trader in the world, but thats my personal opinion. In safe zone, they could be useful to ditch all the extra stuff we got because of the weight limit. Of course traders will buy at a low price because....they are traders :) but not a ridiculously low price neither (hello aftermath).Or they could just be middle men for an "auction house" kind of between players.

So a few in safe zone , which buy / sell specific stuff, and maybe some other in the world to trade ammo maybe in hot pvp spots (exemple: you fight , you loot bodies so you have full 556 or 223 ammo but you need 7.62, that could help instead of going back to safezone).

For me, It's perfect like @Oreo said. 

It's very important to make things easier for newbies. I don't see new people on this game. They start and quit. 

And for those who want to PVP, like me, it's nice to have ammos and medicals on sale. I, myself, don't play that much anymore, because my meds are gone and I don't want to farm.

Would be cool if the way we acquired the currency from sources other than traders was server temporary until we hit safe-zone. Would be a slight deterrent in server hopping if you introduce an event that gave a lump sum of currency, they would have to drop it on log-out or death to reduce grieving mechanics at the same time.

I don't think a currency system should be overly complicated. It should be short simple and to the point. Players are scavengers but players won't always find the stuff they want to pvp with, also most people hoard their best loot knowing it would be extremely difficult to get more like it.

How would you like to earn currency?

Selling, In-game purchases, PvP, Quests, Looting, and finding it on the ground. Literally anything should give you currency. Players can bank the cash they get like depositing their items. Unless they die then they lose it.

What items would you like to see from traders?

Everything except High Tier Items.  Make A Black Market Dealer that can appear like your supply drops. High risk high rewards.

What is your vision for how traders would work?

Basic currency. You mess with that simple formula everything else breaks.

Where would traders be located? 

Campsites, Safezones, and inside the major Points of Interest. So people can grab a gun and PvP

What are your thoughts on limited time traders that have a shifting inventory?

No. Most people have jobs. Not everyone can play a game 24/7 to try and get in touch with a rare limited time event.

Events (should always be #1 and reward the most), trading junk to npc traders, Killings players (see below), Killing bots, Missions.

Killing players - Add some risk when playing. Have 20% of the funds on a players person drop as a lootable item if they die. But, once that player is in the SZ their money should go to their global inventory instantly.

What items would you like to see from traders?

Meds: Gauze only

Ammo: 9mm and 45 acp only

Weapons: Glocks and 1911's only

Misc: Axe, Pickaxe, Small Backpack, Water bottles, and crackers

Cosmetics: There should be between 5-10 Skins of all types. These can be from previous events, prior seasons, and even some unique sets. These can cycle every hour or so.

What is your vision for how traders would work?

They should be there for selling your junk, arming yourself early game, getting some basic gathering equipment, basic food, basic meds, and to making yourself look good while playing.

Shifting Inventory is a bad idea take it away !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There should be 2 traders locations.

1 - The Settlement Traders. These are in the SZ's and have the items I list above.

2 - Wandering Trader - Spawns at random locations in the map. creates a small sz around them. Creates a higher concentration of robots in the immediate area. Sells 1-3 random higher tier items in addition to the items sold by the settlement traders. Lasts about 1 hour goes away for 5-10 minutes then respawns. Is an event Icon on the map.

Earning money should be somewhat difficult and rewarding.  There can be varying levels of earning money from killing bots to completing a compound event or raiding contaminated zones.  

What items would you like to see from traders?

Meds: Gauze, and bandages

Ammo: Different types of ammo depending on trader level (see bellow)

Weapons: Same as above different level trader decides level of weapon.

What is your vision for how traders would work?

I think that there should me multiple different levels of traders ranging from a trader that sells basic low level items to a trader that sells high level items like t3 turret parts or high level weapons.  You can sell them resources that you have to many of.  You can trade in 100 9mm rounds for 20 .223 ammo.  If you trade in 10 gauze you can get one bandage.  Different items would have different values that you can trade for.

Where would traders be located?

I think that there should be one trader that is permanently at a safe settlement.  This would be a low level trader because there is almost no risk going here.  There should be 2 stationary traders located around the map that has a small SZ located around them to prevent players camping the trader all day.  Final there should be a roaming trader that has a changing inventory that has very high end weapons and tools.  This trader would not spawn with a SZ located around them and there would be a risk going to them.

The wandering trader would not have a shifting inventory but will run out of high tier items until it appears after appears twice with no inventory.
